Welcome To My Blog

Hi and welcome to my blog. I hope to show a few of my artworks here.

I live in Australia with a lifelong love of the creative arts. I have played with scrapbooking, cardmaking, and lately watercolour painting. I love creating pieces of art which I turn into cards or wall art. I love painting loose florals and calligraphy and other things that inspire me.

I have maintained a love of art and creating art ever since my teens. Even though I did not have the opportunity to formally study art, I create when I have the chance and the inspiration. I have learned watercolour painting online through various courses, and have fallen in love with it.

I started my love of art when I was in high school, when I took art as an 'O' Level subject (Year 10) in the then British colony of Hong Kong. I loved drawing botanicals in junior school, and dabbled in portraits and figure drawings during high school. At high school fetes, together with a friend, we would run portrait stalls and make a bit of pocket money. In those days I could not paint very well, and mostly worked with pastels or colour pencils.

College took me to another line of work and I did not have much time for art. It was not until years later when marriage and children came along that I was inspired again. This time I delved into scrapbooking and card making, which kept me occupied for decades, until COVID and the lockdowns when I started my love of calligraphy and watercolour painting and learned these arts through online courses. I submitted three paintings to the For Art's Sake Exhibition run by Monash Council and Waverley Gardens Shopping Centre in August 2024 - my first exhibition experience!

Nowadays I focus mainly on watercolours, but I would like to try my hand at acrylics - watch this space! I am inspired by nature, but also have a love of the human body, and will be trying to revisit some of my earlier works which I did as a youth but this time painting them. I hope to reinterpret them with new media and added elements. Revisiting and reinterpreting the old seems to be a good way of stirring up my creative juices, and help find my uniqueness and style. However, many of my artworks are more contemporary, and have been made within the last 2-3 years, encompassing my love of botanicals and calligraphy. Some recent works are inspired by people I know,  particularly friends I have been blessed with.

Why do I do art? I honestly don't know. Right now I am simply continuing to grow and hope to make my own impression in the world of art.

And so, as described above, I have an eclectic collection! Thank you for your interest in my work - I hope you find a piece that will complement your space.
